UoA Bioinformatics alumnus in Naturejobs spotlight

Bioinformatics Institute staff and alumni contributed to a Naturejobs spotlight on bioinformatics, including a profile of Dr Sibon Li. Dr Li received his BSc in 2005, BSc(Hons) in Bioinformatics in 2006, and PhD in 2014. Following several postdoctoral opportunities overseas, he now works at Google in Mountain View, California.

Highlighting the skills and career opportunities for those interested in the bioinformatics field, the article describes how several researchers developed their skills in this area. Dr Li commented that a degree in bioinformatics "provides you with a diverse skill set that opens doors for a range of career options...peers from my program at university have found work in areas like biostatistics, pure statistics and biology. Outside of academia, there are plenty of careers for bioinformatics graduates in companies doing things like software and biotech."

The article, "Spotlight on Bioinformatics," was piblished in Nature in early April 2016. (doi:10.1038/nj0478)
